The impotent feeling you get, over a year after somebody jacked your bike

So, my bike’s brake shoes are about spent. There’s a smidgen of brake compound left, and then it’s metal-to-metal and I’d like to avoid that.

My first thought was “Gee, my bike’s gone long enough before being stolen that I’ve been able to wear down the brake pads”.

I guess this is going to be with me for a while. I got a bike that was a smidgen better than my last bike, because I didn’t want to spend too much money on a bike that was replacing a stolen bike… one that didn’t even last a year. And most of this is because we had a thief in the building.

Still, it bugs the crap out of me what my first thought was.

I decided that, given that I cannot find the manuals for my brakes online and it’s some sketchy no-name-brand, that given it’s only a little more expensive to get some quality V-Brakes that people have been going on and on about being almost as good as real genuine disc brakes.
