Bike highlights for 2009

This year:

  • biked 3811 miles
  • I lost 14 pounds
  • I started learning how to do bike maintenance myself
  • I climbed Old La Honda for the first time
  • I shaved 20 minutes off of my Old La Honda time since my first climb
  • I biked to the Pacific and back
  • I went clipless without doing the horizontal track stand
  • I reached the point where mountains aren't impossible to climb anymore
  • 80 mile rides went from nearly impossible to comfortable
  • I discovered muscular definition on my legs
  • I stopped looking foolish in a spandex cycling jersey. So I purchased one
  • Everybody noticed that I was a lot trimmer
  • I commuted to work just about every day on the bike, rain or shine. I think I missed a few days here and there
I biked here from home. And then made it all the way back!

I had wanted to:

  1. Ride 100 miles rides comfortably (I only found time for 80 miler rides)
  2. Do 3000 ft climbs comfortably (I can)
  3. Do something cool like an organized century (less than I thought, just one ride through the desert)
  4. Continue to commute solely via bike and reduce my time inside all fossil-fuel-burning-vehicles further (I did)

This year, I want to:

  1. Complete at least part of a brevet series
  2. Do a century a month
  3. Shave some more time off my Old La Honda time
  4. Do the ride over the mountains to the pacific, except faster and farther and without scaring the crap out of my wife
  5. Continue to commute solely via bike and reduce my time inside all fossil-fuel-burning-vehicles further
