It amuses me far too much to say this..

So, most folks know that I'm moving.

And one of the standard questions is why I'm moving. And my standard answer is "Because the crime rate in Los Altos is too high."

Those of you who live in the bay area likely have the giggles. Unless I've already told it to you.

Now, for those of you who aren't immersed in the bay area culture, it's important to realize that Los Altos is a fairly high-end neighborhood. Mostly filled with houses of the not-quite-totally-affluent. People who have lived in the area for years and years and years and took advantage of the rise in housing prices or people who struck it big on the options lottery. And it's all pretty much single family freestanding houses.

But there's a little area in the corner that adjoins Cupertino on one side and Sunnyvale on the other where apartments crept in. So, culturally, we're the sort of people who would properly live in Sunnyvale or Mountain View or Cupertino.

So, the truth to the joke is that the crime problem is pretty much in our building. From what I've pieced together from hints the various apartment staff have said, there was a resident with a kid and the kid was stealing. So, even though the large-scale crime rate of Los Altos is pretty much what one would expect from a fairly foofy town, my complex is a hotbed of crime. I mean, my bike got stolen, our car got broken into, and other residents have also been victimized...
