The California Recall
First Peter Ueberroth spammed me for his ill fated campaign. Now Arianna Huffington is spamming me. Sorry to be filling up a blog that should be full of silly stories and geekishness with politics, but some things just get to me!

Charlie Brown for Congress? What an asshole!
I'm pretty sure that at some point, my email address has been associated with my registration on the voter rolls because I've had a number of candidates email me for their campaign in my district, which, along with calling my phone number and leaving automated messages, makes my selection process easier by letting me remove them from contention...

But it's hard to not vote for somebody when their spam list isn't even properly constructed, such that they are spamming people who don't even live in their district.

Switching to a cooler ISP (and stuff)
So, if you haven't noticed, stuff has been broken around wirewd.com lately. Why? Because I was forced to do some stuff that I've been meaning to do for a while by circumstance (or, at least, sound like Jerry Pournelle)

John McCain and the Internet: A dumb idea
Back in the primaries, McCain enlisted the services of spammers. I got some badly targeted emails that were clearly oriented towards military veterans... and the email address for the person I think he thought he had wasn't a veteran, nor am I. I filled out the form on his website and said that I was planning on voting for anybody but him. Clearly nobody read those forms, because I got a few emails to the address I gave there, too. Calling somebody part of the "McCain Community" is about as offensive as overusing the phrase "My friends". I am neither.

McCain spams. Poorly
Is it too much to ask that a potential president not be of the same moral character as people who sell herbal penis enlargement pills over the Internet?

Why politicians should not spam (or even come close)
So I've gotten into some flamewars with folks about spammer politicians with people who don't seem to grasp points until they've gotten hit on the head. So I figure I'll write a nice post on the subject and make it sound reasonable and not have to bother finding new and clever ways to call them an idiot...

The latest and greatest in referer spamming
I like to know who's linking against me, so I check my logs. This is about to get fairly dangerous...

One of the more ironic emails I've received.
So I got a spam today from somebody trying to sell me software to avoid spam. Doesn't this strike you as a little messed up?

The YOU-CAN-SPAM act of 2003
Every time I think that there's hope for our average congressmen, that they won't be little cheating weasels who are bought by the highest bidder, they prove to me that all they care about is lobbyists.
Now that I have my email address scrambled, I can track things. I've made a number of observations...
