Old La Honda Road 2009-04-29 12:11PM
Hill climbing is my nemesis. The problem is that I've got a fairly decent amount of power output, but my power-to-weight ratio is pretty poor. On the flat ground, power-to-weight doesn't matter nearly as much as going uphill.
New rules for telling me to get off the road 2009-04-28 12:35PM
If you tell me to get off the road while I'm going faster than the speed limit in my bike...
Bike Hauling Problems 2009-04-27 11:47AM
I've had some problems hauling what I want to haul on the bike lately. This culminated when my lunch ended up falling off my rack and ending up in the dirt, plus when I stopped, my bike toppled over and landed on it's side...
The Blessing Of The Bikes (via) 2009-04-21 11:00AM
I like this much better than putting SUVs on the alter praying for lower gas prices.
One Year 2009-04-20 12:50PM
On April 20, 2008, I purchased a new bike to replace my old bike, which was stolen from the secured parking garage underneath my apartment building. I didn't want to spend too much money on it, given that the previous bike had been stolen so quickly. And I was sufficiently paranoid about the whole thing that I don't really like letting the bike out of my sight outdoors anymore...
Idaho Stop explained in video form (via) 2009-04-16 12:07AM
My friend Cygnoir commented that she's been nearly run over by "bicyclists who treat stop signs as yield and red lights as stop signs." I like this video because it explains why a proper Idaho-styled stop... well.. it's like a Chicago-stop to me. Personally, I view stop signs and stop lights as an excellent opportunity to make sure that my muscle memory for unclipping is getting built up and I get that extra bit of turning-me-into-one-buff-mofo exercise... but I can see why some folks want a law like this.
One of the biggest deterrents to cycling instead of driving 2009-04-15 12:32PM
One of my co-workers got himself a bike and told all of us that he was going to start biking to work instead of driving. But, three days later, it was stolen from in front of his apartment...
The Speed Cruiser Manifesto (via) 2009-04-14 11:31AM
I sometimes think of my bike as a speed cruiser that can still work as a mountain bike.
Palo Alto complaining about high speed rail 2009-04-04 03:28PM
There was a big dustup about the California High Speed Rail and Caltrain partnership. Now that voters have approved the line, now we get to see how expensive it will be after everybody realizes there will be rail running through their backyard...
Spot Tracker Review (via) 2009-04-03 01:33AM
I kinda want one o' these now. It's a GPS-based tracker that doesn't use the cell phone networks but a satellite service. Has a "Summon help" option.
